Radio Skits from Prairie Home Companion Review by takingadayoff
A fun collection of short bits from the Prairie Home Companion, Sue Scott: Seriously Silly highlights the voices of Sue Scott, longtime actor on the radio show. Garrison Keillor and Tim Russell also appear in many of the 14 tracks, which range in length from 20 seconds to 8.5 minutes. The entire collection runs about an hour and 9 minutes.
I'm not a huge fan of the PHC show, I find a little Garrison Keillor goes a very long way, but I enjoy the radio skits that feature the other actors and the sound effects guy (Fred Newman). This collection was all skits, no musical guests or interviews, just the good stuff. It's perfect to listen to a few minutes at a time or splurge and listen to the whole thing in one go.
As for Sue Scott, she's a hoot. It's easy to believe her as a Minnesota housewife or a California teenager or an aging movie star. The one role I didn't believe was Ruth Harrison, Reference Librarian. Have the writers of this skit about a librarian who seems to be threatened by ebooks and a digital catalogue been to a library lately (say, the last twenty years)? Librarians are leading the way, not standing in the way, at least as far as I've seen.
Lots of fun with several laugh out loud moments.
