Return of the Thin Man
Product Rating: Product Review (submitted on November 26, 2012):As a long-time fan of Dashiell Hammett -- and particularly his comic mystery novel, The Thin Man, published in 1934 -- I wasn't sure what to expect . . . or, indeed, what this title was. As far as I knew, Hammett didn't write a sequel -- but, as it turns out, he did. This is a major event for Hammett devotees: two screen stories and a treatment written (largely) by Hammett himself for the MGM sequels to the original film, starring William Powell and Myrna Loy. The scenarios themselves read like Hammett and as far as I know aren't in print, giving us audiophiles access to a lost trove of Hammett-iana. The second sequel is particularly fun, and the introductions put the material in context. Many thanks to Highbridge for uncovering this treasure and expanding the delicious hard boiled noir tradition of their equally awesome rediscovered Black Mask collection.
